Missed call cost calculator
A missed call is worth your missed calls × the share who would have booked × what a job brings in. Type your own numbers below. At 40 calls a week, 25% missed, 30% who would book and a $400 job, that is about 13 jobs a month, worth $5,200 a month or $62,400 a year. Those are example numbers, not a statistic.
| Plan | Each month | First 12 months, with setup |
|---|---|---|
| Core: $249/mo + $500 setup | 1 job | 9 jobs |
| Pro: $499/mo + $1,000 setup | 2 jobs | 18 jobs |
This is arithmetic on the numbers you typed, not a promise. No tool wins back every missed caller, and we don’t quote a recovery rate because we don’t have the customer data to back one.
How to get your real numbers in 15 minutes
- Calls in a week: open your phone log or carrier bill and count the incoming calls for 1 normal week.
- Calls nobody answered: count the missed ones in the same week, including after hours and on weekends.
- Share who would book: think of your last 10 answered calls from new customers. How many became a job?
- Job value: use your average invoice. For a stricter test, use what you keep after materials and labor.
What to do about the number
If the number is small, you may not need software: returning calls at set times each day could cover it. If it is large, you have 3 usual options: answer more calls yourself, pay an answering service or call center, or use missed call text back, which texts each caller and keeps the conversation going until you can call them.
CompleteLine is the third kind. Your calls forward to CompleteLine, so your own phone stops ringing while forwarding is on. Each caller gets a text in about 5 seconds, and an AI that says it’s an AI answers questions and books the job. Texting starts once the carriers approve your business, usually 1-3 weeks. See it in the demo, read the pricing, or check the texting rules first.
Common questions
How do you calculate the cost of a missed call?
Multiply your missed calls by the share of callers who would have booked, then by what a typical job brings in. Calls per week × 4.33 weeks × percent missed gives missed calls a month. Multiply that by percent who would book and by your job value for the monthly figure, then by 12 for the year.
What percentage of calls do small businesses miss?
We don’t quote an industry number here, because most published figures come from companies selling answering services. Your own count is better: go through your phone log or carrier bill for 1 normal week and count the calls nobody picked up.
Is this how much money I am losing?
No. It is what those calls could have been worth at the numbers you typed. Some callers would call back, and some would never have booked. Change the percent who would have booked to test a cautious version.
Does texting a missed caller win the job back?
Sometimes, and no tool wins back every caller. We don’t publish a recovery rate because we don’t have the customer data to back one. That is why the calculator shows how many saved jobs would pay for the plan, so you can judge whether that is realistic for your business.
What does CompleteLine cost?
Core is $249 a month plus a one-time $500 setup. Pro is $499 a month plus a one-time $1,000 setup and adds an AI receptionist. Both renew until you cancel, and both have a 30-day money-back guarantee that refunds everything you paid for your plan and the setup fee except $100. Extra texts you buy are not refundable.
